Ko Tao and Ko Nang Yuan
Yes. Ko Tao is about two hours north of Samui by fast boat, and day trips usually take in Ko Nang Yuan — three tiny islands joined by a sandbar — as well. The draw is the snorkelling: clear water, shallow coral and reef fish close to shore. Boats leave Samui early and return late afternoon. It is a long day, and worth it if you like being in the water.
Ko Tao is Thailand’s diving island, and the snorkelling is excellent even if you never put a tank on. Ko Nang Yuan — three rocks joined by a curving white sandbar — is the picture everyone takes.
Two hours north by fast boat. Trips leave early and get back late, so it is a committed day rather than a lazy one.
Bring reef-safe sunscreen; Nang Yuan restricts what you can carry ashore, and single-use plastic is not allowed.
