The best time to visit Ko Samui
January to March is the driest and sunniest, and the busiest. April and May are hot — often above 33°C. June to September is quieter, a little greener, and still mostly sunny with short showers. October to December is the rainy season on Samui's east coast, with November the wettest month; rain usually comes hard for an hour rather than all day, and rates are at their lowest. Samui's rainy season is later than Phuket's, which surprises people.
The thing most people get wrong: Samui’s weather is not Phuket’s weather. Samui sits on the Gulf side, so it stays dry when the Andaman coast is wet, and it rains in November when Phuket is at its best.
Month by month
January – March. The classic season. Dry, sunny, and 28–31°C. Also the busiest and the most expensive.
April – May. Very hot, often 33°C or more. Quieter, and good value if heat does not bother you.
June – September. Our own favourite. Mostly sunny with short afternoon showers, everything is green, and there is space on the beach.
October – December. The rains. November is the wettest month. It usually comes down hard for an hour and then stops, so a two-week stay still gets plenty of sun — but plan indoor options and expect a grey day or two. Rates are at their lowest.
What that means for booking
If you want guaranteed sun, come January to March and book early. If you want value and can accept a shower, June to September is the sweet spot.
